Celebrity MasterChef, the Farah Khan-hosted cooking-based reality show, is heading towards its finale, scheduled for April 11. Ahead of its premiere, contestant and actor Gaurav Khanna came under scrutiny as questions arose about the originality of his star dessert in one of the recent episodes. He faced serious accusations of copying a honey-dripping dessert originally crafted by Swiss chef Josia Reichen. The row began when Chef Reichen uploaded the show’s promo on Instagram, implying similarities between his creation and Gaurav’s dish.
Now, Gaurav’s co-contestant Rajiv Adatia has come out in support of the Anupamaa fame actor, emphasising the difference between copying and taking inspiration from. Rajiv stated that while Gaurav’s dessert was similar to Chef Reichen’s, it contained different elements and ingredients.
The Bigg Boss 15 fame said in a video posted by TellyChakkar, “I know what people are saying that Gaurav imitated a recipe, but that chef also drew inspiration from another chef. So the chef claims he copied him, but he also took inspiration from another chef. To Gaurav ne inspiration leke bnaaya hai. Chalo aap logo ko lagta hai that he has copied, but he has done his one thing in the dish. The components also differ. It’s about taking inspiration and creating your own spin on it. It is not copying; it’s called taking inspiration."
He added, “May it be Tejasswi, who has prepared some of the most amazing dishes, Faisu, and even myself, who cannot even create the cuisine, have all contributed significantly to the show. Even Nikki, Abhijeet, and Archana have created some of the most exquisite delicacies and dishes, and we all take inspiration from other people and make our own. We all have worked very hard. Please respect our efforts."
Gaurav received a lot of praise from star Chefs Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar for his dessert.
The Celebrity MasterChef India grand finale is set to air on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 8:00 PM IST on Sony Entertainment Television. The top five finalists of this season are Gaurav Khanna, Rajiv Adatia, Tejasswi Prakash, Faisal Shaikh and Nikki Tamboli.
