New Delhi: After a ban on social media use of children under 16 years of age in Australia, now companies like Meta, SNAP and Tiktok are demanding a similar ban on YouTube. These companies say that if this law can apply to other social media platforms, then why was YouTube separated from it?

Demand to ban

Meta, TikTok and SNAP say that YouTube also provides children access to algorithmic content recommendations, social interaction features, and potentially harmful materials like other social media platforms. He believes that the same dangers exist on YouTube, which are on other sites like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. META says that children can also be victims of harmful content due to YouTube.TikTok described this law as inconsistent, as YouTube is excluded from it. SNAP also demanded fairness, saying that the law should be equally implemented to all platforms.

Why not banned

In November 2024, the Government of Australia implemented a new law, under which children below 16 years were prevented from accessing social media. If a platform allows children to log in, they will be fined heavy. However, YouTube was exempted from this rule, as it offers educational materials, family control and parental supervision facilities. Although no steps have been taken in India, there is no need to take concern in this matter.

Content moderation policy

Reacting to the objections of other companies, YouTube said that it is strengthening its content moderation policy. The company is working on identifying and removing harmful content with the help of automated tools.
