In a tragic incident in South Kolkata’s Kasba area, three members of the same family were found hanging inside their residence on Monday evening. The deceased have been identified as Sarajit Bhattacharya (70), his wife Gargi Bhattacharya (68), and their son Ayusman Bhattacharya (38).
While Father’s body was found hanging in the drawing room, Mother and Son were found hanging inside their rooms.
According to officials, around 6:10 PM, Kasba Police Station received information that the family, residing on the second floor of 50 Rajdanga Gold Park, had not opened their door since morning. When officers arrived, they found the collapsible gate and main wooden door locked from the inside. The doors were forcibly opened in the presence of locals.
Later, a local doctor confirmed their deaths. Police from the Homicide Squad and the Detective Department also visited the scene.
While an unnatural death (UD) case has been registered, police said the exact cause of death will be determined after post-mortem examination.

In another incident, a 12-year-old boy in Panskura, Paschim Medinipur district, allegedly died by consuming pesticide after being accused of theft and forced to do sit-ups by a shopkeeper for allegedly 'stealing' a packet of chips, as per a PTI report. The victim, a 7th-grade student, allegedly lifted a packet of chips from a shop at Gosaiber bazar in the Panskura area on Thursday evening after he failed to find the shopkeeper, Subhankar Dikshit. He had called out, "Uncle, I will buy chips" repeatedly without any response and finally left the shop allegedly with one packet of chips, the officer said, quoting his grief-stricken mother. According to the family's complaint, the boy was allegedly chased by Dikshit, who returned to the shop shortly after, slapped him, and forced him to do sit-ups in full public view, the officer said, as per a PTI report.
