Desk: You might have realized that as soon as you buy something from a shop or retail store, there is a mobile number from you. After this, in a few days you start getting calls and messages. Sometimes information about a cell, sometimes a call starts coming for the details of the new scheme. All this happens without your permission and this is called commercial calls or spam calls. Now to provide relief from this problem, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has started a new pilot project.

Retail stores and companies often claim that they have taken offline consent from customers, so they can call or message. But it is difficult to find out the truth of this offline consent. This is the reason that now TRAI has said that now the consent of digitally customers will be taken. And this consent will be recorded in a particular registry, so that anyone can verify it.

TRAI has prepared a Digital Consent Registry “in collaboration with telecom companies. In this, when a company takes a consent in a digital manner from the customers, it will be necessary to register that data in the registry. Now if a company wants to send a call or message, it will be seen first whether the digital consent of that customer is in the registry or not. If not, the company will not get a call.

TRAI has started this rule as a pilot from 13 June. For this, TRAI has included some selected banks in collaboration with RBI (Reserve Bank of India). Banks have been asked to get consent digitally from their customers. If a bank does not do this, then he will not be able to call its customers to sell their products.

If someone makes commercial calls to someone without a retailer, bank or company digital consent, then their number will be blocked or cut. TRAI can take action against that company. Customers will have the right to complain. Calls and messages will stop coming without permission to you. Only those companies will contact which you have given digital permission. Your privacy will be safe and will get relief from waste calls.
