New Delhi: Red Dead Redemption 2 could be riding into the current-gen console era very soon. A long-speculated PS5 and Xbox Series X|S port may finally become real this week, with fans buzzing over fresh hints from John Marston’s voice actor, Rob Wiethoff. And if that wasn’t enough, the Nintendo Switch 2 is also part of the conversation.
Wiethoff, who famously voiced the outlaw in Rockstar’s Red Dead series, recently dropped a huge tease during a livestream of the original game. While chatting with viewers, he hinted at a major reveal on the way, and it has players hoping for a full-blown next-gen relaunch of the critically acclaimed western.
“Oh my goodness, the news I have to share…”
Speaking during his Twitch stream earlier this week, Wiethoff didn’t hold back his excitement. “I’ve got such exciting news, I can’t share it with you right now, and it’s absolutely killing me,” he said. “I am so excited, I truly cannot think of anything else, especially playing this game, I can’t think of anything else other than what I want to tell you so bad.”
He confirmed that the announcement won’t drop immediately, but said it would arrive before the end of the week. “Not as soon as tomorrow, but definitely before Friday,” Wiethoff added. “I won’t be the only one sharing it. I cannot wait for you to see what’s going on.”
Fans took this as the strongest hint yet that a Red Dead Redemption 2 update is finally on the way for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and possibly even a release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Could this mean a Nintendo Direct reveal?
There’s already talk that the rumoured Switch 2 announcement might be coming during a Nintendo Direct event. That would line up with Wiethoff’s vague Friday deadline and the growing leaks pointing to Nintendo’s next console reveal.
Interestingly, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently confirmed strong launch support for the Switch 2. “We’re offering more on launch support than ever before for a Nintendo platform. We’ve announced four titles for Switch 2,” he said. The confirmed titles include Civ 7, WWE 2K, NBA 2K, and Borderlands 4, all set to drop this year.
Red Dead Redemption 2, originally released back in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, has sold over 74 million units and remains one of Rockstar’s most celebrated titles. While Rockstar focuses on GTA 6fans haven’t stopped asking for an upgrade to match the newer hardware.
So what’s next?
If the leaks and Wiethoff’s tease line up, Red Dead Redemption 2 might just return with faster load times, upgraded visuals, and maybe some Switch 2 compatibility thrown in. These updated versions are rumoured to launch by late summer or early fall, which means the official word could drop any day now.
Whether the reveal comes through a PlayStation blog, a Nintendo Direct, or straight from Rockstar itself, fans are locked in and ready. With Wiethoff hyping it up this hard, something big is almost certainly around the corner.
