The number of active Covid-19 cases in Manipur has risen to five, marking a resurgence of the virus in the state after nearly two years without any reported cases.
The Directorate of Health Services on Friday confirmed in the latest status report.
According to the report, 15 samples were tested on Friday, including one from Imphal East, 13 from Imphal West, and one from Tamenglong. Of these, three samples returned positive results-one from Imphal East and two from Imphal West.
The latest case resurgence was first detected on June 1, signalling a return of the virus in the state after a significant gap since the last reported case.
The cumulative number of samples tested for active cases in this renewed surveillance effort now stands at 36, with five confirmed positive. Four of the individuals who tested positive are currently in home isolation, officials said.
Director of Health Services Chambo Gonmei informed the media that no new guidelines have been issued by the central health ministry as of now.
However, as a precautionary measure, the public is being advised to wear face masks, maintain personal hygiene through regular handwashing with soap, and get tested if they experience high fever or other COVID-19-related symptoms.
Since the initial outbreak in 2020, Manipur has recorded a total of 1,40,045 COVID-19 cases. Of these, 1,37,893 patients have recovered, while 2,149 people have died due to the virus.
