Omar Abdullah's Strong Stance on Israel-Iran Conflict
Srinagar: The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, expressed his strong disapproval of Israel's recent military actions against Iran, labeling them as "completely unjustified." He emphasized that Iran had not provoked Israel in any way to warrant such aggression. Abdullah stated, "From what I understand, Iran has not provided any justification for Israel to launch attacks against it. Israel initiated this conflict on its own, branding it as a preemptive strike," during a press conference.
He further remarked that if global powers choose to remain silent in the face of Israel's aggression, it would be a "very unfortunate" situation.
The Israeli military targeted Tehran early on Friday, striking at Iran's nuclear facilities, which has escalated tensions and raised fears of a broader conflict between these two longstanding adversaries in the Middle East.
This assault marks one of the most significant military actions Iran has encountered since its war with Iraq in the 1980s.
Abdullah drew parallels between Israel's actions and Russia's invasion of Ukraine, stating, "When one speaks out against Russia, a movement arises, yet when Israel attacks Iran, the global powers—whether the US, Europe, or others—remain silent."
He asserted, "If an attack by a nation like Russia on another is deemed wrong, then Israel's assault on Iran is equally unjustifiable."
The Chief Minister warned that the escalating situation in the Middle East could have immediate repercussions worldwide, affecting fuel prices, stock markets, and international flights, while also impacting public sentiment.
Additionally, Abdullah urged the Ministry of External Affairs to prioritize the safety of Kashmiri students currently in Iran, stating, "I request @MEAIndia to take urgent measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Kashmiri students stuck in Iran. Their families are extremely concerned, and we stand with them during this challenging time. Every effort must be made to protect our students."
In response to the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad that claimed 241 lives on an Air India flight to London, Abdullah expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and called it a tragic event. He expressed hope that the causes of the incident would be identified soon and that such tragedies would be prevented in the future.
