The father of Umar Hayat, also known as Kaka—the prime suspect in the murder of popular TikToker Sana Yousaf—has stated that he does not believe his son is responsible for the killing.
Sana Yousaf was shot dead on June 2 in Sector G-13 of Islamabad. The main accused, Umar Hayat, was arrested the following day, June 3. During interrogation, Umar confessed to the murder and was subsequently sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand for an identification parade.
Recently, a video clip of Umar’s father, Amjad, went viral on social media in which he expresses disbelief over his son’s involvement in the crime.
“I don’t know anything about the murder,” said Amjad. “I wasn’t even aware of any relationship or friendship between my son and Sana Yousaf. I saw the same video as everyone else, showing my son walking out of Sana’s house, but whether he fired the shots or what their relationship was—I don’t know. Why was he at her house? Why would he kill her? My heart refuses to accept this. Only Allah knows the truth.”
He added, “The video is very short and does not clearly show that my son committed the murder. I don’t believe he did it.”
In another interview, Amjad said, “If my son is involved in the murder, then he should absolutely be punished according to the law. But I want justice—not just for my son, but for the innocent girl who was killed. Whether the murderer is my son or someone else, I strongly condemn the crime.”
Earlier, Sana Yousaf was originally from the village of Chuinj in Upper Chitral and was the daughter of a well-known and active social worker. Her father, Anwar-ul-Haq, is also a prominent member of the “Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz Huqooq-e-Chitral” (Movement for the Protection of Chitral’s Rights).
During the ongoing investigation, a video message from Anwar-ul-Haq emerged in which he spoke about the tragedy. “This incident was completely unexpected. I had no enmity, no conflict with anyone—it was a sudden and heartbreaking tragedy,” he said.
In his message, Anwar-ul-Haq appealed to the government, saying, “The perpetrator must be brought to justice. It is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure that he is held accountable. I ask for justice for my daughter.”
