Preparations for the Grand Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: On Monday, Odisha's Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced that approximately 80% of the preparations for the annual Rath Yatra in Puri are finalized.

The revered Rath Yatra, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, is scheduled for June 27.

A second coordination meeting to review the festival's arrangements took place in Puri, led by Harichandan.

Every year, millions of devotees flock to the coastal town to partake in this significant event.

After the meeting, Harichandan informed the press that most of the necessary work has been accomplished, with the remaining tasks expected to be completed before the festival.

He expressed confidence that, with Lord Jagannath's blessings, this year's Rath Yatra will proceed smoothly, thanks to collective efforts.

The administration overseeing the temple of Lord Jagannath operates under the state's law department.

When questioned about health measures in light of Covid-19, Harichandan noted that there are currently no advisories from either the central or state health authorities.

Nevertheless, he assured that all necessary precautions would be implemented based on health department recommendations.

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, who was also present at the meeting, revealed that 300 medical professionals will be stationed in Puri for the festival.

Additionally, a temporary burn unit and an ICU have been established in the city for pilgrims.

Mahaling also mentioned that 15 permanent ICU beds will be available in Puri prior to the Rath Yatra.

The meeting covered various topics, including accommodation, facilities, security, traffic management, sanitation, power supply, and organized darshan for devotees, as well as ensuring the timely execution of rituals and ceremonies.

Several other ministers participated in the discussions.
