Surprisingly what made the film more memorable was that Amitabh Bachchan charged just Rs 1 to portray the role of Narayan Shankar in the film. Yes you heard that right. The times when stars negotiate for their salaries Amitabh Bachchan asked for just Rs 1. Well there is a heartwarming story regarding why Big B charged just Rs 1 for Mohabbatein. When Yash Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan collaborated for cult-classic Silsila he asked Big B how much money he wants. To this Big B responded I want more because I want to buy a house. He then made sure to give Big B the desired amount and fulfilled his wish. However for Mohabbatein when Yash Chopra asked the same question to Big B about his fees he said You gave me what I asked for last time. This time I will take only Rs 1 for the film. And he stood by it. Made on a staggering budget of Rs 19 crore Mohabbatein earned Rs 90 crore and became one of the highest-grossers of the year. Although today Amitabh Bachchan might be charging a lot for his roles but for Mohabbatein charging just Rs 1 shows that he is not just a prolific actor but also a generous human being.
