News India Live, Digital Desk: Election Commission of India (ECI) Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi In the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, he has requested to submit a formal written complaint on his allegations of large -scale electoral misconduct.

This response of the Election Commission came when Gandhi in an article accused the Commission of enabling “match fixing” in the election process. He alleged that Maharashtra elections were part of the “plan to rigged in democracy”, warned that there could be similar rigging in the upcoming elections including Bihar.

Gandhi relied reluctant to formally write letters to the Election Commission

A senior officer of the Election Commission questioned Gandhi’s reluctance in writing a letter to the Election Commission formally. The official said, “It is very strange that even after 24 hours of his article is published, Mr. Rahul Gandhi has neither written a letter to the Election Commission nor sought time to present its concerns. A constitutional body like Election Commission can formally answer only on contacting through official communication.”

Election Commission repeated That after the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, all political parties, including the Congress, were invited to discuss in May. While other national parties participated in the meetings, the Congress demanded the postponement of its appointment of May 15, which has not yet been re -determined.

While writing for a major media organization, Rahul expressed concern over the sudden increase in the number of voters in 85 constituencies, where the BJP had performed poorly in the Lok Sabha elections. He also demanded a consolidated, machine-elective voter list and release of CCTV footage after 5 pm from polling stations.

CCTV footage not provided publicly

Reacting to these demands, the Election Commission clarified that such CCTV footage is not publicly available due to confidentiality concerns and electoral integrity. However, if a petition is filed in front of it, it can be investigated by the competent High Court. The official asked, “Does the Leader of the Opposition no longer trust the High Court?”

The Commission also objected to Gandhi’s comments and said that his allegations indirectly raise doubts over millions of voting and counting employees, including his own party-appointed booth-level agents. The official further said, “Such baseless allegations weaken the honesty and hard work of more than 60 lakh officers and agents across the country.”

The Election Commission has always said that it has responded to similar allegations twice in the past – once in a detailed note to the Congress on December 24, 2024 and then on 22 April, 2025 through media explanation, but also said that it is ready to provide details again. “We are ready to deny the point-by-point, but only when the formal complaint is received.”
