Liam Dason, who won England with his banging bowling against the West Indies, believes that England will have to choose at least one good spinner for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Dawson himself took three wickets and played a key role in his team’s big win of 137 runs, for which he also received the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
Talking to Sky Sports after the match, this left -handed spinner said, “Our thinking should be that we should include a spinner in the 2026 World Cup if not two, if not two. If we do, it will be good for us, they will be very helpful in winning the match.”
According to Dawson, India and Sri Lanka have to host the next T20 World Cup, and spin bowling will be dominated on these pitches. In the current World Cup too, England team was eliminated in the semi -finals, where many questions were raised about the spin department. Spinners like Adil Rashid and Moin Ali are definitely in the team, but Dawson wants England to find even more options.
He clearly stated that he is hopeful that England will prepare a strong spin attack by 2026. Dawson believes that it is very important to play pitch and circumstances in T20 cricket, and in the Indian subcontinent, specially helpful pitches are prepared for spinners.
This victory has boosted England’s confidence, but Dawan’s advice can give a new dimension to England’s future T20 strategy. The team management will have to consider deeply whether they can really win the next World Cup without spinners? The performance of the Dawson and their words can prove to be an important learning for the team.
