Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s long wait for IPL glory finally ended in 2025, and among the many celebrating the historic moment was the franchise’s first-ever owner, Vijay Mallya.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mallya shared an emotional message, recalling his early days with RCB and the pride of watching the team finally lift the trophy after 18 years.
“When I founded RCB it was my dream that the IPL trophy should come to Bengaluru.”
“I had the privilege of picking the legendary King Kohli as a youngster and it is remarkable that he has stayed with RCB for 18 years.”
“I also had the honour of picking Chris Gayle the Universe Boss and Mr 360 AB DeVillers who remain an indelible part of RCB history.”
“Finally, the IPL trophy arrives in Bengaluru. Congratulations and thanks again to all who made my dream come true.”
“RCB fans are the very best and they deserve the IPL trophy. Ee Sala Cup Bengaluru baruthe!”

Mallya’s tribute comes at a moment when the franchise, often dubbed as underachievers despite a loyal fanbase and star power, has turned its fortunes around. With RCB winning their maiden IPL, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals are the two active teams that have featured in all 18 seasons and are yet to win a trophy. Lucknow Super Giants is the only other franchise with a trophy.
MI and CSK continue to lead the trophy numbers, with five trophies each.
