Since the advent of the UPI service, the use of cash has decreased. However, one disadvantage of making digital payments is that if a payment is made to the wrong account by mistake, then you have to go through a lot of trouble to get it back. If you also think so, then you are wrong. You do not need to worry if you make a UPI payment to the wrong account. In such a case, there is an easy process to get the money back, by following which you can easily get your money back as soon as possible. Let's know about this whole process today.
First, talk to that account holder.
Whenever a UPI payment is made to the wrong account, first of all, you should immediately talk to the owner of that account. Often, people think that payment by mistake is a common thing. If you get the money back directly from the same person, then you will not have to go through the rest of the process, and you will save a lot of time. However, amid the increasing cases of digital fraud, it is possible that if you contact the person in whose account the payment was made by mistake, then he may not give you the right answer. In such a situation, you have to follow the process given below.
Contact the concerned bank immediately.
Immediately after making a UPI payment to the wrong account, you should contact your bank. You can contact us by going to the customer care or the branch. The bank will take the payment details from you and start an investigation process. In this process, the bank contacts the bank from which the money has gone. If the receiver has not spent the money, then the bank can reverse it with your help. Keep in mind that it is necessary to contact the bank within 48 hours of the wrong payment. In case of not being able to contact the bank, a complaint can also be lodged by calling 18001201740.
Complain to the customer support of the UPI app.
Go to the "Help" or "Support" section of the UPI app from which you have made the payment, such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, etc., and talk to the customer care. There you can complain about your wrong payment. After this, the app's team meets your bank and the receiver bank to investigate the case. If the mistake is proved and the receiver agrees to return the money, then a refund can be received. This process can take a few days, but in many cases, help is also received soon.
File a complaint with NPCI or RBI.
If the solution is not found from the bank or UPI app, then you can complain on the official complaint portal of NPCI, i.e., National Payments Corporation of India or RBI. The website of NPCI is https://www.npci.org.in, and the website of RBI is https://cms.rbi.org.in. Fill out the complaint form there and upload the necessary documents. NPCI or RBI can investigate your case and direct the bank to take appropriate action. This can be a slightly longer process, but it is effective.
