Certain people across the UK are being urged to keep their windows closed during the ongoing heatwave. Temperatures have hit 30C in some parts of the nation this week with the UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) issuing heat alerts.
Many bugs and insects choose to come inside our homes during a heatwave as they seek cooler and shaded areas. They also find it easier to get inside through openings and experts are urging people to close their windows if they have cool-toned lighting in their bedrooms.
Ally Dowsing-Reynolds, co-founder and lighting expert at Dowsing & Reynolds, said: "Your bedroom should be a relaxing, peaceful place for you to unwind, but in summer months when we open up our windows, the room can become a haven for unexpected visitors like moths and flies."
However, bugs are attracted to certain lighting as it mimics the moonlight. To prevent them from entering your room, you should replace your light bulb to a warm temperature.
Ally added: "People are often unaware that the lighting you choose may be tempting insects into your room at night. Cool-toned lighting is the most effective at attracting insects into the home, as it not only mimics the moonlight but the brightness can also disorientate the bugs, making them fly towards the light source and into your bedroom.
"Instead, choose a warm or neutral light in your space to reduce the likelihood of insects being enticed into your bedroom at night. If you want to stick with cool-toned lighting, dimmer switches are a great option to reduce the brightness and, in turn, reduce the chances of insects being attracted into your bedroom."

Many bugs and insects are attracted to lights that emit UV and blue light. People are advised to use yellow or warm-toned LED lights, which emit less blue and UV light, to stop insects.
Experts from Light Supplier said: "Traditional bulbs and lights tend to attract more insects as they emit UV light. While LED lights may attract fewer bugs than traditional lighting options, they are not entirely bug-proof.
"If you are nervous about attracting them into your home, you can opt for lights that have warm-coloured bulbs, such as yellow lighting."
