Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran did not attend the TCS AGM due to the Air India plane crash last week. The board kept a minutes silence to honor the victims. This was the second consecutive day of Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran skipping the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). According to an Economic Times report TCS Company Secretary Yashaswin Sheth informed shareholders in India that Chairman Chandrasekaran will not be able to attend the AGM due to “some exigencies.” Chandrasekaran Miss TCS AGM The London-bound Air India flight AI-171 carrying 242 passengers and crew members crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. All but one on board the plane died along with 29 on the ground when the aircraft smashed into a medical complex. Chandrasekaran could not attend the Tata Consumer Products AGM on Wednesday because he reportedly focused on action that needed to be taken after the crash of Air Indias plane from Ahmedabad to London. Non-executive director P B Balaji chaired the Tata Consumer meeting in the absence of the board chairman as regulations allow another director to preside under such circumstances. TCS AGM On Air India Plane Crash “This is a very difficult time for us at the Tata Group. We are all deeply saddened. This is an unimaginable tragedy that has resulted in so many losses of lives. Words can be of no consolation right now” said Mistry as reported by ET. “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the people who have lost their lives. Tata Group stands in solidarity with the affected people in these challenging times” he added. Tata Consumer started the annual general meeting (AGM) series for major Tata Group companies with TCS holding its AGM on 19th June and Tata Motors scheduled to conduct its AGM on 20th June. Chandrasekaran became Tata Sons chairman in 2017 after being the CEO of TCS for eight years. TCS Sheth said that directors have elected independent director Keki Mistry to preside over as the chairman for the AGM.
