Bayer Munich’s legendary goalkeeper spoke to the media ahead of their clash with Boca Juniors.
As Bayern Munich prepare to face Boca Juniors in their next Group C game, Manuel Neuer shared his expectations ahead of facing the famous Argentine club.
“We’re definitely expecting a good atmosphere. We saw how their game against Benfica went. It will be important that we stay focused, that we stay cool and concentrate on our strengths,” he said.
After opening their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 10-0 thrashing of minnows Auckland City, the veteran shot-stopper outlined Bayern’s preparations for next Saturday’s fixture.
“We recharged our batteries and then trained normally again. We’re building towards the game so that we’re increasingly focused, including in analyzing our opponents, and know exactly what we need in the game.
“The intensity is also getting a bit higher, but the day before the game it’s reduced a bit because the temperatures here obviously also play a role,” Neuer explained.
Regarding the tournament as a whole, the 39-year-old is not jumping to conclusions about potential upcoming opponents and favourites to lift the title.
“We’ll see how each team performs here and how they cope with the conditions. And then the knockout stage will be a separate story.
“The favourites are, of course, the teams from Europe. But we shouldn’t underestimate the teams from South America either,” he added.
