
MI New York batsman and USA captain Monank Patel entered his name in MLC history books with record record-breaking innings against Seattle Orcas during the MLC 2025 match on Thursday, June 19. Patel has now become the first American player to register the highest score by an USA batter in Major League Cricket. He surpassed the previous record held by to San Francisco Unicorns captain Corey Anderson who scored an unbeaten 91 against MI New York in the inaugural edition.
Who Is Monank Patel?
Monank was just eleven years old when his father Dilip - a former wicketkeeper-batsman himself - introduced him to cricket. Hailing from a cricketing family, Monank's father Dilip and uncle Chintan Patel played at the district level
At 13 years, Monank was leading the Anand district team in the Gujarat Cricket Association-affiliated U-15 tournaments and piled up a massive 144 and a brilliant 166 against the district teams of Surat and Bharuch, respectively.
Anshuman Gaekwad, who was then the head coach at the GCA, took note of Monank’s performances and over the next few years, he was part of the age-group tournaments. Monank decided to shift base to the US in 2014.
In 2018, he made it to the USA team. After piling runs in the List A tournaments, Monank made his international T20 debut in March 2019 against the United Arab Emirates in Dubai
MI New York Leave Seattle Orcas winless
Batting first in this match, Seattle Orcas scored 200 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Kyle Meyers scored 88 runs in 46 balls. Shayan Jahangir scored 43 runs while captain Heinrich Klaasen scored an unbeaten 27 runs.
MI New York chased down the target with one over to spare. Apart from Monak Patel, Michael Bracewell also displayed amazing batting scoring an unbeaten innings of 50 runs in 35 balls, which included 3 fours and 3 sixes. Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten by scoring 26 runs.
