sustained a shoulder injury while fielding in the first ODI against England at County Ground, Derby on Friday, May 30. The West Indies captain missed the two subsequent ODIs. However, she returned to action during the ODI series against South Africa, which concluded on Tuesday, June 17, playing all three games.

However, Melbourne Renegades will have to look for her replacement in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), as the 27-year-old will not be available to play during the eight-team tournament. Matthews had been signed as a pre-draft recruit by Renegades, the defending champions, for two years, but her unavailability was announced just hours before the draft.

Matthews will be in action during the West Indies' three-match T20I series against South Africa, starting on Friday, June 20. She will also play in the Women's Caribbean Premier League in September for Barbados Royals. The all-rounder will then go for her surgery during the Women's ODI World Cup, as the West Indies failed to qualify for the global event. She won't be available for the rest of the year after that.

"We are clearly disappointed Hayley won't be with us this season. She's been instrumental during her time with the Renegades, not just with her performances but with her leadership and professionalism. There's a very close relationship between the Renegades and Hayley and we know it will continue next year and beyond. Hayley loves this club and we share in her disappointment at not being available for this year's tournament," Renegades general manager James Rosengarten was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Renegades will now have all three overseas spots to fill at the WBBL draft on Thursday, June 19, in Melbourne. Matthews played a significant role last season in the WBBL as the Renegades lifted the coveted title for the first time. They finished at the bottom of the table in the preceding edition, and their redemption story will be remembered for ages.

Matthews was their highest run-getter with a tally of 324 runs and a strike rate of 130.64 and was also their second-highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps, while leaking less than seven runs an over. In international cricket, the Barbadian cricketer has scored 3074 and 2828 runs from 99 ODIs and 109 T20Is, respectively. She has picked up 125 and 11 wickets in the two formats, respectively.
