Chikkamagaluru: The Western Ghats in the Malnad region of Chikkamagaluru district are witnessing relentless rainfall, turning the Kalhattigiri Falls near Kemmangundi into a ferocious spectacle.
Located in Tarikere taluk, the waterfall has swollen with massive water flow due to days of heavy downpour. Until last week, the waterfall had only a modest flow, but over the past four to five days, the gushing rains have transformed it into what locals are calling a “water demon.”
The intense rains in the Kemmangundi forest belt have made the area both mesmerizing and intimidating. Tourists, typically drawn to Kalhattigiri for its scenic beauty during the monsoon, are now expressing fear to even approach the roaring cascade.
Meanwhile, Chikkamagaluru’s natural charm is being captured through drone footage that showcases the lush greenery of Charmadi Ghat and the scenic Ettinabhuja peak.
The ever-rainy terrain of Charmadi, with its meandering roads and plunging waterfalls, has turned into a monsoon paradise. Tourists visiting the region have been left awestruck by the emerald beauty and dense mist wrapping the Ghat roads.
Ettinabhuja, named after its resemblance to a bull’s shoulder, is also drawing nature enthusiasts who are captivated by its mystique and untouched wilderness.
With the rains continuing unabated, authorities advise caution for those venturing into the hilly regions while also encouraging responsible tourism to enjoy nature’s monsoon spectacle.
