Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, long celebrated as the industry’s original action hero, recently credited a rather unexpected source for influencing his high-octane stunts the iconic cartoon duo Tom & Jerry. In a candid conversation with Pinkvilla, the Housefull 5 actor opened up about the surprising impact the classic animated series had on his action sequences.
“Tom & Jerry is My Action Guru”
When asked about the now-viral plane stunt from his 2000 film Khiladi 420, which resurfaced during the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Akshay laughed off comparisons with Hollywood action star Tom Cruise. Rather than claiming credit or drawing parallels, he pointed to his childhood favorite: Tom & Jerry.
“You know where I draw all this inspiration from? You will not believe it from Tom & Jerry,” Akshay revealed with a smile. “It is apparently made for children, but actually, if you look closely, there is so much action. It’s the most violent thing!”
Cartoon Chaos Translated to Cinema
Akshay recalled how specific scenes from the cartoon directly inspired sequences in his films. “I remember Tom coming from a helicopter, hanging and picking up Jerry I did that in Sabse Bada Khiladi. Then there’s Tom hanging on a plane, which I recreated in Khiladi 420,” he shared.

Even his reality stunt show Khatron Ke Khiladi wasn’t spared from the cartoon’s influence. He referenced an airborne wine-and-hammock scene from Tom & Jerry that found its way into one of the show’s stunts.
A Humorous Take on Cartoon Violence
With a chuckle, Akshay concluded, “It is so violent. Please try to understand it is a violent film you are showing your children.”
Clearly, the blend of humor and chaos in Tom & Jerry left a lasting impact on one of Bollywood’s most daring stars.
