The human remains discovered near Taylor Swift's residence have been identified.

Initially found washed up on May 14 in the Watch Hill area of Westerly, Rhode Island - where Taylor Swift has a beachfront mansion - the remains were identified as Eric Wein's over a month later on June 17, according to a statement from the South Kingstown Police Department.

Wein, a 31 year old Massachusetts man, was reported missing on April 18, with his car last seen on Ocean Avenue in South Kingstown on April 10. The press release also mentioned that the South Kingstown Police Department collaborated with the Mansfield, Massachusetts Police Department and the Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiners to identify the remains.

The police department "formally concluded its investigation. No foul play is suspected." the press release noted,

"We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Wein's family and loved ones during this difficult time," the statement concluded.

When the remains were discovered in May, officers informed PEOPLE that they had found "what appeared to be a human leg bone" in the coastal town of Watch Hill around 9:30 in the morning on Everett Avenue. A local resident, Taylor Day, spoke to NBC10 WJAR, expressing her shock: "It kind of alarmed me, and it was just something very out of the ordinary for Westerly.

"It was probably a couple football fields away from Taylor Swift's house and the Ocean House," Day remarked, "I would never expect anything like that - especially not in Watch Hill."

The Ocean House stands as a historic hotel by the waterfront in the vicinity, boasting a Victorian Style architecture. The first Ocean House came into existence in 1868 but shut its doors in 2003, marking the end of the waterfront Victorian-era hotels on mainland Rhode Island.

Following its demolition in 2005, a new Ocean House emerged in 2010, incorporating elements of the original edifice.

Swift's residence, erected in the 1920s and also referred to as High Watch, has its own slice of history, previously belonging to Standard Oil heiress Rebekah West Harkness. Swift paid homage to Harkness with her song 'The Last Great American Dynasty', featured on her acclaimed 2020 album, Folklore.
