Supaul, Bihar – In the name of women empowerment, government efforts to bring women into the mainstream by giving 50% reservation in Panchayati Raj system are seen dying in the ground. Only the officials are busy in putting it on it. It was seen in the meeting of the head held in the Triveniganj subdivision auditorium. Which remains the subject of discussion in the region.

‘Husband reached the meeting instead of the chief

The participation of the female head was almost negligible in the meeting held with the heads of the block in the auditorium on Monday evening under the chairmanship of SDM Abhishek Kumar. The situation was that her husband or other male family not only attended the meeting in place of the female head, but also played an active role in the discussion on development plans.

Democratic process was seen hurt

According to the Panchayati Raj Act, the elected representative has the right to take decisions and participate in the meetings. In such a situation, the participation of ‘husband representatives’ is not only ignoring this law, but it is a violation of their rights by making women just a symbolic face.

The meaning is losing the word ’empowering’

Social workers and local people say that unless women come in the role of decision making, there will be no real benefit of reservation. In lieu of female representative, this work of husband is making the purpose of women empowerment hollow.
