Allegations of Domestic Abuse in Bihar

Authorities in Bihar have detained a man for allegedly subjecting his wife to severe abuse, including confinement in a room for two days due to suspicions of infidelity. Reports indicate that the woman accused her husband, Shatrughan Rai, aged 40, of forcing her to ingest chili powder and inflicting burns on her thighs with a heated iron.

According to police, the woman claimed that her husband attempted to electrocute her and locked her away without food or water for two days. Neighbors reportedly did not intervene during her cries for help, fearing retaliation from her husband. She was finally rescued on June 15, 2023, when her brother visited her home and took her to the hospital.

Threats from In-Laws

On June 16, the woman lodged a formal complaint against her husband, mother-in-law Dukhni Devi (45), brother-in-law Sumesh Rai (30), and sister-in-law Pushpa Devi (26). While her husband was quickly apprehended, the others remain at large.

"We have registered charges related to domestic violence and physical assault. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the remaining suspects," stated senior police officer Ram Vinay Kumar.

The victim recounted that the ordeal began earlier this year when her husband and his family accused her of cheating. Married for a decade and a mother of three, she expressed that for the past six months, her husband and his relatives have harbored suspicions against her. "When I suggested taking a medical test to clear my name, they threatened my life. Their actions were inhumane," she shared.
