New Delhi: Allegations of ball-tampering against Ravichandran Ashwin and his TNPL team the Dindigul Dragons made by the Seicham Madurai Panthers have been dismissed. Following a June 14 match in Salem the Panthers alleged that the Dragons illegally altered the ball using chemically treated towels. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) however concluded its investigation without finding any supporting evidence of ball tampering. The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams the TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan said in a statement. The Playing Control Team-including umpires and the match referee-maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match. No concerns were raised during play and no verifiable evidence has been provided. The claims appear speculative and post-facto in nature. State cricket association-supplied towels were used to dry the ball when necessary under the supervision of the umpires. The TNPL requested immediate verification from the Panthers to support their allegations. The allegation appears to be post-facto speculative in nature and based solely on internal team communications without supporting evidence Kannan had written in his mail which is in PTIs possession to the Panthers. Kannan reported that the umpires and match referee did not file any complaints regarding the game either during or after its conclusion. The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams. The Playing Control Team including umpires and the match referee maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match he had said. An internal committee within the TNCA was established to address the matter. The chain of events started when Panthers CEO Mahesh S wrote to TNPL claiming blatant ball tampering by defending champions Dragons. Maheshs letter requested a TNPL investigation into the origin of the towels. The Dragons cricket team achieved a decisive nine-wicket victory over the Panthers at the Salem Cricket Foundation Ground. The Panthers scored 150 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20-over innings. Ashwin bowled four wicketless overs conceding 27 runs. Despite opening the batting he scored 49 runs from 29 balls as his team the Dragons successfully reached their target in 12.3 overs.
