has confirmed another 52 branches with close later this year, including 46 in England and six in Wales, amid a broader shift by high street banking giants to online services. Three mobile van stops will also be shut in Wales, as the bank continues a major reduction of its bricks-and-mortar offering.
This is in addition to 54 closures already announced for this year, with the final 11 of that round closing in June. Last month, consumer group estimated the NatWest Group, which also includes RBS and Ulster Bank, has pulled down the shutters on some 1,455 branches since 2015. The majority of the next set of closures taking place later this year will be coming in September and October, though some dates are yet to be confirmed.
A NatWest spokesperson said: "Over 80% of our active current account holders now use our digital services and over 97% of retail accounts with us are now opened online.
"Our customers appreciate the speed and convenience of digital banking for everyday transactions, and often, when it comes to making bigger, more complex decisions they value speaking to our skilled and experienced colleagues."
However, the bank said money would be pumped into improving the branches that remain and making them more environmentally friendly, as reported by .
"We expect to invest over £20m in our network across the UK in 2025 to improve customer service, enhance the look and feel of our branches, and reduce the environmental impact of our buildings, as well as continuing to invest in shared solutions like the Post Office and Banking Hubs," the spokesperson added.
"We will also provide temporary support for transitions to our new network in selected locations through our 12-week Community Pop-Ups."
