Monsoon Hits Madhya Pradesh: 27 Districts on Alert for Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds on June 17, 2025

Weather Update: The southwest monsoon made its entry into Madhya Pradesh on June 16, 2025, and is set to impact 27 districts with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds (40-60 km/h) on June 17, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). A yellow alert has been issued for cities like Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Rewa, urging residents to stay cautious while welcoming relief from the ongoing heatwave.
Weather in the Past 24 Hours: Over the last day, parts of Madhya Pradesh experienced light to moderate rainfall, providing respite from the scorching heat. Divisions like Ujjain, Bhopal, Indore, Chambal, Shahdol, and Sagar saw rainfall, with significant showers in Narmadapuram, Gwalior, Rewa, and Jabalpur. However, some areas remained dry. Pachmarhi recorded a minimum temperature of 20.0°C, while Sidhi hit a maximum of 41.4°C. Winds gusting up to 52 km/h were reported in Jabalpur.
Districts on Alert Today: The IMD has forecasted heavy rain, thunderstorms, and winds of 40-50 km/h in Bhopal, Raisen, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Rewa, Satna, Umaria, Katni, Jabalpur, Panna, Sagar, Damoh, Chhatarpur, and Tikamgarh. Additionally, stronger winds (50-60 km/h) and possible lightning strikes are expected in Rajgarh, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Alirajpur, Dhar, Ratlam, Balaghat, Shahdol, and Anuppur. Bhopal is likely to see cloudy skies with light showers, with temperatures ranging between 27°C and 36°C.
Weather Outlook for the Next 2-3 Days: On June 18 and 19, rainfall is expected to spread to more districts, with temperatures dropping by 2-4°C. Farmers are advised to avoid irrigation and pesticide spraying and to secure harvested crops. Residents should remain vigilant due to the risk of heavy rain and strong winds.
Monsoon Progress: The southwest monsoon entered Madhya Pradesh via Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa, and Burhanpur on June 16. It is expected to advance further in the next 24-48 hours, intensifying rainfall across the state. A cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat may develop into a low-pressure area, further strengthening the monsoon.
