Renowned Pakistani supermodel and actress Sunita Marshall, celebrated for her elegance and grace, recently shared personal insights about her interfaith marriage and religious identity during an appearance on the FWhy podcast.
Sunita, who is married to actor Hassan Ahmed, discussed how her journey as a religious minority in Pakistan has shaped her perspective. Despite many members of her family having moved to London in search of better economic opportunities, Sunita continues to live and work in Pakistan, where she says she has never faced discrimination due to her Christian faith.
Speaking candidly, Sunita reflected on her relationship with Hassan, revealing that they dated for five years before tying the knot. During this time, she was warmly welcomed by Hassan’s family, who showed respect and acceptance regardless of religious differences. This respect and openness were pivotal in her parents accepting the relationship and eventual marriage.
However, Sunita did share that not everyone was immediately supportive. The priest at her church initially opposed the union. Eventually, through discussions involving Hassan’s uncle and the Bishop, the couple received approval and had a proper church wedding — an occasion attended by members of both families.
In a touching revelation, Sunita recalled a moment when Hassan, after returning from Umrah and a traumatic kidnapping incident, expressed his wish for her to consider converting to Islam. She appreciated his honesty but gently told him that such a decision must come from the heart and cannot be forced. Since then, she said, Hassan never brought it up again.
Sunita emphasized that she takes pride in her identity and has always been open about her beliefs. Her story reflects a powerful message of mutual respect, religious tolerance, and the importance of staying true to one’s faith in a relationship.
