New Delhi, June 16, 2025 — Great news for Aadhar card holders! The hassle of repeatedly submitting photocopies of your Aadhar card to verify your identity may soon be a thing of the past. The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is introducing a high-tech digital identity system that will allow individuals to confirm their identity simply by scanning a QR code.
This upcoming system aims to make the identification process faster, more secure, and paperless—benefiting users across sectors like hotels, railways, property registration, and more.
📲 QR Code to Replace Aadhar Photocopy for ID VerificationThe UIDAI is preparing to launch a new mobile app that will allow users to share their identity via a secure QR code, eliminating the need to submit physical copies of their Aadhar card.
This step is designed to reduce the risk of identity fraud and misuse, while giving users complete control over when and how their personal data is shared. Access to the digital identity will require the user's explicit consent.
🏠 Aadhar Updates From the Comfort of HomeStarting by November 2025, UIDAI plans to introduce a new digital platform where users can update their name, address, mobile number, and date of birth from home. Only biometric updates (like fingerprints and iris scans) will still require a visit to an Aadhar center.
UIDAI Chief Bhuwanesh Kumar has confirmed that around 2,000 enrollment machines are already being reallocated to support this shift.
🔐 Full Control Over Your Data, Enhanced PrivacyWith the new QR-based identification, your personal data remains under your control at all times. The information will only be shared when you approve it, and no third party will be able to access or store your data without consent.
UIDAI is already in discussions with public and private service providers, including hotels, security agencies, and government offices, to integrate this system across the country.
👶 Faster Biometric Updates for ChildrenThe UIDAI is also working with education boards like CBSE to speed up biometric updates for children aged 5–7 and 15–17 years. According to reports, nearly 8 crore (80 million) children’s first-phase and 10 crore (100 million) children’s second-phase biometric updates are still pending.
🌐 A Nationwide Rollout of Digital Identity Coming SoonWith the implementation of this smart, secure, and paperless digital identity system, India is stepping into the future of governance and citizen services. UIDAI’s goal is to provide citizens with greater autonomy and control over their personal identification while making verification quicker and safer across platforms.
