'It Was A D*** Pic' Jonita Gandhi's 'Disgusting' Cyber Harassment Story Will Make You Sick

India has one of the most dangerous celebrity cultures in the entire world.

One day, a statue of you might be unveiled in one state, and the very next day, statues of you could be burning in another. Earlier, such acts didn’t necessarily invade anyone’s privacy; they were symbolic, even if extreme. But today, we live in the age of social media, where a celebrity is no longer distant or untouchable; just a click away.

And sometimes, some people just cross the line, which is outright unacceptable and needs strict action.

Singer Jonita Gandhi recently shared one such incident, which not only traumatised her but also filled the listeners with disgust.

In a recent interaction with Hauterrfly, Jonita narrated how a user tagged her in an explicit picture and it took her by surprise.

She said, “Some things are kind of traumatic. On Instagram, you can check your mentions, and I’d see that I’d been added to someone’s Close Friends stories. Then I’m seeing it’s a d**k pic. It has a watermark with their thing with my photo in the background. It’s a new thing now. It’s disgusting. It’s harassment. But I keep ignoring such things.”

Jonita added, “I don’t check my DM. I only check my primary now. So I don’t bother. I think they just want attention. People are just jobless. I block so many people.”

Users are shocked to hear this story and are calling out such users.

One user commented, “Horrible. It's always brushed aside by people (or not spoken about enough) but the amount of sexual harassment female celebs have to face in India on the internet is crazy.”

Another user commented, “What's worse is that we as women are so used to these kinds of videos/pics and violations that we are forced to have a thick skin about it. Because if we don't, it's our mental health and emotional well being that get severely affected, while these low level humans remain the same.”

One user reacted, “Thats a disgusting move , be very careful when posting a female family member publicly.”

Another user reacted, “People who do shit like this should be doxxed. Find their names, find their photos, their place of work, their families, and send this stuff to them, and tell them this is the kind of person you are around. And then let them make a choice whether they want to keep these people around. Cyber crime and all is a lot of work, that puts the pressure on the victim to push the process through. The pressure should be shifted on the person doing this dirty sh*t.”

One user said, “Disgusting! It must be traumatizing for her. I feel like internet has to be regulated with regards to content like this. It has been hijacked by incels who make such vulgar content. A friend used to post pictures of Instagram back in the day just some regular pictures of school, trips and all. And she received some dms with her picture being morphed to such content I don't want to even say. From that day she never used it again. These people haven't developed skills to become better but surely learnt editing and stuff to do things like this.”
