Investigation Launched into Bridge Collapse

On June 16, in Mumbai, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who also serves as the guardian minister for Pune district, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the tragic collapse of the Kundmala bridge over the Indrayani River. This incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left 51 others injured. Pawar emphasized that strict measures will be taken against anyone found negligent.

Describing the event as deeply unfortunate, Dy CM Pawar stated, "Initial reports suggest that the bridge was in a deteriorated state. Therefore, I have directed the administration to thoroughly investigate this incident, and I assure that if any maintenance negligence is identified, those responsible will face consequences."

He further expressed the government's commitment to support the affected families during this crisis, ensuring that necessary medical aid will be provided to the injured promptly. Pawar urged the public to avoid rumors and rely solely on official updates, asking for patience and cooperation with the authorities.

Prime Minister and Union Minister Offer Support

In the wake of the bridge collapse, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged full support to the Maharashtra government for the ongoing relief efforts. The Chief Minister's Office reported that PM Modi, upon arriving in Cyprus, reached out to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to express his condolences and offer assistance.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his sorrow over the incident, praying for the swift recovery of those injured. He noted, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic bridge collapse on the Indrayani River in Talegaon, Pune. I spoke with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to understand the current situation. NDRF teams nearby quickly mobilized to the site, effectively joining the rescue efforts and saving numerous lives. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased, and I pray for the injured's recovery."

Financial Aid and Ongoing Rescue Operations

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the state will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the bridge collapse. Additionally, the government will cover the medical expenses for the injured.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that the NDRF team has arrived at the scene and that rescue operations are underway. He has been in direct contact with the Pune District Collector to ensure immediate assistance is provided.

Former Union Minister Sharad Pawar emphasized the need for heightened vigilance from the government and public representatives, especially during the rainy season when many people visit tourist spots. He stressed the importance of ensuring safety measures at these locations to prevent future tragedies.

Local Leaders Respond to the Crisis

Supriya Sule, the Baramati MP, visited the site of the bridge collapse and expressed her condolences. She stated, "A significant accident occurred due to the bridge's collapse over the Indrayani River at Kundmala in Maval Taluka. I visited the site to assess the situation and spoke with local residents and victims, offering them support. This horrific incident has resulted in loss of life and injuries, and rescue operations are ongoing. I visited the hospital to check on the injured's condition and pray for the safe return of those still missing."
