Ab de Villiers on Delhi Daredevils: AB de Villiers, the legendary South African player, has opened some shocking secrets about their early days in the IPL and their former team Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). Before becoming famous worldwide as ‘Mr. 360’, de Villiers played three seasons for DD before joining RCB, out of which he was able to play the entire 2009 season when the tournament was held in South Africa.

In an interview with Cricket.com, AB de Villiers sensationally claimed that the Delhi Daredevils team was on the verge of collapse “despite the presence of big names like Glenn McGrath and Daniel Vitori. He admitted that his time was bitter in DD and as a youth he was afraid of his heroes, which led to many heartbreaking moments.

AB de Villiers did not directly name anyone, but from his words he indicated that there were some ‘poisonous’ or’ cancerous people in the team, due to which their experience was poor. He said, “I wouldn’t like to name … but Delhi Daredevils were on the verge of ruin. There were many poisonous people in that team.” He also alleged that he did not get the support from the Delhi team which he expected.

AB de Villiers said, “I realized from those heights that I have some cancerous people and there is no need to take their name, so this three years have been very bitter for me. I did not get the support I needed.”

AB de Villiers joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2011 and spent the rest of his IPL career with this franchise. He revealed that Delhi Daredevils had reported that he would be retained, but before the 2011 auction, he found himself in auction.

AB de Villiers became emotional and said that the day he joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he immediately realized that this team wants to see him moving forward and wants him to play every match.

Sharing his experience, de Villiers said, “2009 was good. I played almost the whole season in South Africa, I felt that I was going to be ‘The Man’. Suddenly, I did not play again. So it was really mixed feelings. I was told that I would be kept intact, and the next moment, I saw that I was not in the auction. I didn’t know what happened.

AB de Villiers made his IPL debut in 2008. Since then, he played 28 matches for Delhi Daredevils from IPL 2010. He scored 671 runs in these 28 matches. In IPL 2009, AB de Villiers scored 465 runs in 15 matches at an average of 51.66. This includes a century and three half -centuries.
