Alnwick Castle in Northumberland is one of Britain's most impressive medieval castles, yet many visitors are unaware of its starring role in and . The castle's distinctive towers and courtyards were used as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the series, including the Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets.

It also became famous as Brancaster Castle in Downton Abbey's special Christmas episodes, and both interior and exterior scenes appeared in Transformers: The Last Knight.
Alnwick Castle's own lists other famous appearances including the recent blockbuster Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Built around 1096, Alnwick Castle has belonged to the Percy family, now the Dukes of Northumberland, since 1309.
It is known locally as the "Windsor of the North" and is the second-largest inhabited medieval castle in England after Windsor Castle, according to .
The castle's impressive medieval structure was significantly restored in the 19th century by architect Anthony Salvin, blending medieval style with lavish Victorian interiors.

The grounds were also beautifully landscaped by famous designer Capability Brown.
Visitors can tour the lavish Italian-style state rooms, which feature exquisite paintings, sculptures, and furnishings.
Alnwick also offers special tours guiding fans through its famous filming locations.
Tourists who have visited rave about its beauty and atmosphere.
One recent visitor said: "An absolutely stunning castle both inside and out. The castle itself is magical, even more so for Harry Potter fans. There is loads to explore within the castle grounds, with rooms spanning the whole history of the castle."


Another visitor added: "100% worth visiting. Make sure you reserve the whole day if you really want to explore the castle and the gardens as there's a lot to do and see."
The castle is easily accessible, located just off the A1.
Visitors travelling by train can stop at nearby Alnmouth Station on the East Coast Mainline, just four miles away, before taking a short bus or taxi ride.
Regular buses also run from Newcastle's Haymarket station.
The castle is open from March until October 23, and at the time of writing, are priced at £21.55 for adults, £17.55 for concessions, £11.35 for children (5-16) and free for children younger than four-years-old.
