
As many Greek islands prepare for yet another overcrowded summer with skyrocketing visitor numbers, one sticks out as the perfect destination for a quieter retreat. A new report from has revealed a handful of islands where tourism remains small-scale, sustainable, and blissfully uncrowded across Europe's hotspots. The retreat booking site analysed the latest data from the European Commission, focusing on overnight stays in tourist accommodation per square kilometre.
According to the analysts, it's a clear measure of how physically stretched some destinations have become, especially on islands where space, housing, and public services are limited. is the second-largest Greek island in area and population, after Crete, but without the hordes of tourists.

One person wrote on Tripadvisor: "Very nice island. We were together with family & friends.
"We went by small boat hired from us for 12 persons, not with the small ones as its a bit far from Nidri, one hour by boat. Beautiful beaches special to north part of island."
Sean Kelly, co-founder of BookRetreats.com, said: "These are the places that still feel like islands.
"You're not shoulder-to-shoulder on a beach or queuing for a table. The pace is slower. . And they've made intentional choices to keep it that way."
Other Greek islands that rank among Europe's least crowded include Chios, Lesvos, Limnislanos, Ikaria, and Samos.
One of Euboea's highlights is Kalamos Beach, with amazing clear waters surrounded by rocky mountains that make for a breathtaking scene.
One person wrote of it in Tripadvisor: "I love Kalamos for the sea, the food, the luxury of not doing anything because it's all by your side without a car."
