Pune: A section of a bridge over the Indrayani river in Pune’s Maval tehsil collapsed on Sunday afternoon. Authorities fear that around 10 to 15 people may be trapped under the debris, while one person is suspected to have been swept away by the river’s current.

The incident occurred near the Kundmala area, under the jurisdiction of Talegaon Dabhade police station, and led to immediate deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to the spot. Local police and fire personnel are also involved in the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

“So far, three individuals have been rescued safely. However, one person is feared to have been carried away by the river,” said an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police.

Preliminary reports suggest that five to six people were rescued soon after the collapse, though the exact number remains unconfirmed.

Authorities have cordoned off the area and are using boats and divers to aid in the rescue operations.

The bridge, which connects key areas in Maval, was reportedly used by both pedestrians and two-wheelers. Locals allege that the structure had shown signs of wear for months, raising concerns about its maintenance.

Further updates are awaited as rescue operations continue.
