Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Three Special Investigation Teams (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police are separately interrogating all five accused, including alleged mastermind Raj and Sonam for killing her husband Raja Raghuvanshi.

The accused have been under police questioning since June 11, after being produced in a Shillong court, which remanded them to eight days' police custody. Each accused is being interrogated individually to cross-verify facts and gather evidence.

“The SIT teams are questioning the accused based on data and evidence collected from both Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya,” a source in the investigation said.

The interrogation has so far focused on events leading up to Sonam’s marriage, along with inconsistencies in the statements of Sonam and Raj. Investigators have also raised questions regarding the clothing and burqa used on the day of the murder, as well as transactions and funds in various bank accounts.

Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, confirmed that police teams are currently focused on uncovering the full truth behind the planned murder. “After three to four days of interrogation, we will take all five accused to Sohra-Cherrapunji for a crime scene recreation. This is an essential part of the ongoing investigation,” Syiem told the media. He added that charge sheets will be submitted at the earliest.

A new revelation has surfaced regarding the flat which was rented by Vishal for Sonam’s stay in Indore. The flat, located near Dewas Naka, is situated close to the godown of Sonam's father's company. It is believed that earlier both Raj and Vishal had frequently visited the area and they could have the detailed knowledge of the locality, leading them to choose the area for her stay.

Amid the nationwide attention surrounding the murder case, a satirical poem has been written by Mumbai-based Jubel D'Cruz. The poem sarcastically highlights Sonam’s act of denying her role and blame-shifting Raja’s killing on Meghalaya’s people.

Sonam, Sonam

Yes papa,

You killed Raja,

No papa,

Telling lies,

No papa,

Okay, let's blame it on the people of Meghalaya,

Ha! Ha! Ha!

Sonam 2ndwoman inmate in Shillong jail charged with murder

Sonam Raghuvanshi will be sent to Shillong District Jail once her police remand ends. She will be the second woman in the facility to be charged with murder. Her admission will bring the total number of female inmates in the prison to 20, out of a total of 496 prisoners.

Special arrangements inside jail

Given the high-profile nature of the case, jail authorities are implementing extraordinary precautions. Sonam will be lodged in an isolated cell near the jail warden's office and placed under continuous CCTV surveillance.

Two senior female inmates have been designated as her cell companions and custodians. Their responsibilities include assisting jail staff in monitoring her behaviour, ensuring her mental well-being, and preventing any attempts at self-harm, as per reports.

Prison life and routine

Standard prison protocols will apply to Sonam, including scheduled meals—breakfast, lunch and dinner—and access to television. She will also be allowed family visits, provided the names of visitors are submitted in advance and approved by jail authorities.

Like all other female inmates, she will be expected to participate in vocational activities such as sewing and basic prison upkeep.
