LeBron James has been playing in the NBA for more than two decades. He’s now over 40 years old and has been in the league for 22 seasons, which is a very long time for a professional athlete. But even at this stage of his career, he hasn’t slowed down much. He’s still playing at a very high level, regularly putting up stats that most younger players would be proud of. Simply put, he’s still one of the best in the league, even after all these years.
That said, everyone knows that retirement is somewhere on the horizon. LeBron has nothing left to prove. He’s won championships, broken records, played in multiple eras of the league, and even accomplished his personal goal of sharing the court with his son, Bronny. At this point, it’s just a matter of when, not if, he decides to walk away from basketball.
Is LeBron James planning to retire?
Recently, LeBron posted something on social media that got fans talking. On his X account (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, he shared a short, edited video. The video starts with a bunch of reporters shouting questions at him, the typical media chaos. But then one voice stands out, asking directly: “Are the retirement rumours true?”
Right when it looks like LeBron is about to answer, the screen cuts to black. You never get to hear his response. That cliffhanger moment created instant buzz online.
But what really puzzled people was the caption LeBron added: “I’ve been asking myself the same question…#ad.”
That last part, “#ad,” raised some eyebrows. Why label it as an ad when the post didn’t promote any product, brand, or service? This made it hard to tell whether LeBron was actually teasing his retirement, or just setting up a reveal for something else, like a commercial, a documentary, or even a new business venture.
The post didn’t give any clear answers, but it did stir up a lot of conversation. Fans and analysts started wondering whether LeBron was hinting that he might be ready to step away from the game. Others suggested that it might just be a clever marketing trick, and that he’s still planning to play next season.
The truth is, no one knows for sure, maybe not even LeBron himself. He has said in the past that one of his biggest dreams was to play in the NBA alongside his son, and that finally happened last season. Now that it’s done, it’s possible he’s starting to seriously think about closing this chapter of his life.
But until we get a clear announcement, all we can do is wait. For now, there’s no official sign that he’s retiring before the upcoming season. He’s still under contract, still healthy, and still performing like one of the top players in the league. However, this post shows that the end of the road might be closer than fans are ready for.
