ICC New Rules: Apart from fours and sixes, the best catches in cricket also make the audience get up from their seat. Especially the catches taken on the boundary are now very common, where the fielder jumps into the air and jumps the ball and goes inside the boundary, then comes back and takes the catch. The ICC is now going to curb such catch, as the ICC has made some major changes in the rules of the catch taken near the boundary. The ICC has included the new rule of catching the catch in its new sports conditions, and this change will be applicable from this month. However, the MCC i.e. Marylabone Cricket Club will include it in its official rules from October 2026.

Change in the rule?

According to the new rule, now if a fielder touches the ball two or more times in the air while staying outside the boundary, then that catch will not be considered valid, but will be declared a six. That is, now the fielder will not be able to touch the ball again and again by jumping in the air outside the boundary. The most famous example of this was seen in Big Bash League 2023. Australian player Michael Neser went outside the boundary and caught the ball in the air, then jumped into the air and came inside the boundary and completed the catch. Then that catch was considered valid, but under the new rule, now such a catch will be invalid and the batsman will be given 6 runs. Apart from this, everyone also remembers the great catch taken by Indian player Suryakumar Yadav on the boundary line in the T20 World Cup final. However, that catch of Suryakumar was under the regulations. He did not touch the ball in the air outside the boundary line twice, but now the ICC rules have become even more strict about such catch.

Big change in ODI rules also

The ICC has not only changed the rules of catching, but has also changed an important rule in the ODI match. The rules of two new balls have been changed in ODIs. Now two new balls will be used for the first 34 overs of the 50 -over innings, as has been happening till now, but the team that has been fielding after the 35th over will have to choose one of these two balls and throw the remaining 16 overs of the innings with the same ball.
