Sunjay Kapur , prominent Indian industrialist and ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor , tragically passed away on June 12 at the age of 53 in the United Kingdom. Reports confirm that Sunjay suffered a fatal heart attack while playing polo—a sport he was deeply passionate about.

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred during an ongoing polo match when a bee allegedly entered Sunjay’s mouth while he was riding. The insect is believed to have triggered a severe reaction, leading to a heart attack. Despite immediate medical intervention, Sunjay could not be revived.

Sunjay’s sudden demise has sent shockwaves through business and celebrity circles alike. He was the Chairman of Sona Comstar and an active face in India’s elite social and sports communities, particularly known for his love for equestrian sports.

Actor Vivek Oberoi was among those to express his sorrow on social media. "It's truly heartbreaking to hear about the untimely passing of Sunjay Kapur. Such a profound loss for everyone who knew him. My deepest condolences and strength to his family during this incredibly difficult time. May they find peace and courage to cope with this immense grief," he tweeted.



In a heartbreaking coincidence, Vivek Oberoi also grieved the death of his close friend and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani , who was among the victims of the tragic Air India plane crash on June 12. The London-bound flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad crashed shortly after takeoff, killing over 265 people.

“Deeply saddened to hear the tragic loss of my dear friend, former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani Ji, in the Air India plane crash. His contributions to Gujarat were immense, and his dedication to public service touched countless lives. My heart goes out to his wife and children who anticipated his return in London. This is an unimaginable tragedy. I'm praying intensely for more people to survive as rescue efforts continue and those affected are being rushed to hospitals. Hours after news broke of Sunjay’s untimely death, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan were seen arriving at Karisma Kapoor’s Mumbai residence late Thursday night. Karisma, who shares two children—Samaira and Kiaan—with Sunjay, has remained in Mumbai during this difficult period.

A visibly distressed Kareena chose to avoid paparazzi, while Saif accompanied her as the couple offered support to Karisma and the family in their moment of grief.



Sunjay’s final tweet mourned the Air India tragedy

In a haunting twist of fate, Sunjay Kapur himself had posted a condolence message just hours before his own death. “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. Sunjay Kapur’s personal life had long captured media attention. He was previously married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, and later to actress Karisma Kapoor, with whom he had two children. Their tumultuous relationship and eventual divorce in 2016 made headlines for years.

In 2017, he married Priya Sachdev, ex-wife of American hotelier Vikram Chatwal. The couple welcomed a son, Azarius, in 2018. Priya also has a daughter, Safira, from her previous marriage.
