'It's Backstabbing' Why Shreyas Iyer Said THIS After Losing Another Final After IPL

Shreyas Iyer-led team suffered a defeat in yet another final, and the reason was the same as the IPL 2025 final, where his side lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This defeat comes only 10 days after the Iyer-led side lost to RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Iyer’s team, SoBo Mumbai Falcons, finished as runners-up after losing to Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals in the summit clash of the third edition of the T20 Mumbai.

While the reason for their defeat was the same – dismal batting performance – it had a slight difference. Iyer’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) failed to chase down the target in the IPL 2025 final, but Mumbai Falcons couldn’t post a challenging score on the board while batting first.

Falcons put only 157 runs on the scoreboard at the Wankhede Stadium, which is known for its batting-friendly surface. Like the IPL final, Iyer flopped in the match, scoring only 12 runs off 17 balls. Mayuresh Tandel and Harsh Aghav were the leading run-scorers for the side, scoring 50 and 45, respectively.

The match went to the final over, with Maratha Royals emerging victorious, with five wickets left and four balls to spare.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, a dejected Iyer said, “Don't want to pinpoint any particular incident. Overall, the boys were brilliant with their efforts.”

Asked to point out the reason why his team flustered in the final, he gave a positive response, saying he was proud of his team’s efforts throughout the tournament, where they lost only one game en route to the final.

“We lost just one game en route to the final. Just a one-off game where you can't single out anyone – it's basically backstabbing, and I don't enjoy that. We've learnt a lot,” he added.

“It's pretty common to feel dejected after a final loss. It must hurt them. But when they come back next year, they'll have that extra motivation and confidence. They should be proud of their effort,” he concluded.

Unlike IPL 2025, where he led his team by example, amassing over 600 runs, Shreyas Iyer couldn’t repeat the same magic in the Mumbai league, failing to cross 25-plus in any of the matches he played in.
