Concerns Over the Asia Cup's Future

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly on the lookout for backup plans due to rising uncertainties surrounding the 2025 Asia Cup. Scheduled for September in India, the tournament's viability is now in question following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. These tensions intensified after a tragic terrorist incident in Kashmir, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and a military standoff between the two nations.

BCCI's Silence on Event Plans

Despite the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) previously endorsing a hybrid model that would allow Pakistan to compete at a neutral venue, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not provided any recent updates regarding the event's final arrangements. This silence has prompted the PCB to explore alternative options.

Tri-Nation Series Discussions

According to reports, the PCB has initiated discussions with the Afghanistan Cricket Board and UAE officials to potentially organize a tri-nation series in the UAE, should the Asia Cup be canceled. Informal negotiations between the relevant boards have already commenced.

Asia Cup's Likelihood Diminishes

A reliable source within the PCB indicated that the Asia Cup is increasingly unlikely to take place in India as initially scheduled due to the ongoing strained relations between the two countries. Consequently, the PCB is actively pursuing a proposal for a tri-series.

Upcoming Meeting for Future Decisions

Sources confirm that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the ACC president, is expected to hold a crucial meeting soon to assess the feasibility of the Asia Cup and outline the next steps.
