Industry Minister, Sarah Jones, tried to dodge multiple questions during an appearance on on Friday. ITV hosts Kate Garraway and Adil Ray quizzed her on the ongoing Israel and Iran conflict, but the Labour politician declined to answer in a straightforward way - angering fans at home.
Ms Jones was asked if the UK government knew about Israel's attack on Iran before it happened. Kate put the question to her, asking: "First of all, were you aware that Israel was going to conduct these airstrikes overnight? Was the government made aware of it, do you know?" But the politician skirted around the answer, replying: "So this is a very concerning and dangerous situation, of course. And, this government supports de-escalation, and that is what we will be trying to achieve. Of course, I can't talk on air about what we did or did not know, but we will be using all of the powers that we have with our allies to urge all sides to show restraint."

Kate pointed out that Iran is "already retaliating" with more than 100 drones, as she said it feels like "a very dangerous escalation." Adil then threw another question at the politician, as he asked: "Just to be clear, so we absolutely know, do you support and do you think was absolutely right and within their rights to attack Iran last night?"
Ms Jones replied: "We support de-escalation, that's what we want." Adil cut in as he grilled her, saying: "Hang on, so do you think were wrong then? It's a very simple question isn't it? Do you think that were right or wrong to do what they did last night? Which one is it?"
"Forgive me," pleaded the politician. "I will repeat that we want to see de-escalation. We need cool heads at this time. We will be using the resources that we have, in terms of the influence that we and our allies have, to see de-escalation. We do not want to see escalation."
Adil then changed his line of questioning as he asked the Labour MP if she was worried about the conflict. She replied: "We are very worried about the situation in the Middle East. We are very worried about the situation that we saw this morning and, of course, we have taken action." She added: "We continue to push for an end to the military action."
It comes as has launched dozens of air strikes against Iran targeting its nuclear programme, military facilities, and killing its top two commanders. This has led to declaring a state of emergency as they expect counterattacks in the near future.
Earlier in the show, : "Breaking news this morning. has carried out major air strikes in Iran, with officials saying that they targeted nuclear sites." continued: "Yeah, blasts were heard in the , Tehran, in the early hours. State TV claims that residential areas were hit and a military chief has been killed. has declared a state of emergency in the country, saying it expects counterattacks in the near future."
