
Chillling footage captured on camera shows the moment the doomed Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner took off from Ahmedabad and crashes moments later. The video, shared by journalist Shiv Aroor on social media, reveals the full sequence from takeoff to the devastating crash unfolding in less than a minute. The CCTV shows the Boeing aircraft struggling to gain altitude just seconds after liftoff.
A huge fireball and plumes of smoke follow. Flight AI171 departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in earlier today, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members. According to Flightradar24 data, the aircraft lost signal at an altitude of 625 feet, less than a minute after takeoff. Only one person is said to have the devastating plane crash that was headed to London Gatwick Airport, carrying 53 British nationals, 169 Indian nationals, one Canadian national and seven Portuguese nationals.
NDTV Managing Editor, Shiv Aroor, shared the video on (formerly Twitter) followed by the caption: "The full sequence from take-off to crash-final moments of Air India 171 captured on CCTV. Clear catastrophic lack of lift just seconds after liftoff."
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who is believed to be the only survivor, told the Hindustan Times: "Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly.
"When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital."
204 bodies have reportedly been recovered.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
A local hospital has received 186 bodies so far, the reported.
A medical association reported that a section of the aircraft crashed into the dining hall of a nearby medical college, killing at least five medical students and injuring nearly 50 others.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer told that the crash is "absolutely devastating".
He said: "There will be British and Indian families across the land who are absolutely impacted by this. Our thoughts, first and foremost, are with them."
The Prime Minister stated that a team of investigators has been dispatched to India and confirmed that the UK is maintaining ongoing communication with officials in India.
