Family members of the victim are "not being allowed" to visit the hospital as they queue up to hear an update from the authorities. On Thursday, crashed in Ahmedabad, India. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight met a tragic fate, crashing into a residential area in Meghani Nagar just minutes after departing from Ahmedabad at 1.38pm on June 12, 2025.

Poonam Patel, who arrived at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad Gujarat, has been waiting to meet his family member who was on the Air India Flight. He told ANI new agency: "My sister-in-law was on the plane, travelling to London. We received the news just an hour after she took off that the plane had crashed. We haven't been allowed inside the hospital to see her yet, but we are waiting to meet her as soon as."

Ramila's son was in the medical hostel during lunch break when the ill-fated plane crashed into the building. He jumped from the second floor and sustained minor injuries. She told ANI: "He is currently undergoing treatment for the minor injuries."

According to the officials, there were 53 British nationals on the flights, 169 Indian nationals, 1 Canadian, and 7 Portuguese nationals on the plane.

Air India Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran said: "With profound sorrow, I confirm that Air India flight AI 171 operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of all affected by this devastating event. At this moment, our primary focus is on supporting all the affected people and their families. We are doing everything in our power to assist the emergency response teams at the site and to provide all necessary support and care to those impacted."

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has stood up a crisis team in India and the UK, David Lammy has said.

The Foreign Secretary told the Commons: "My thoughts and I'm sure those of the entire House are with those who've been affected by the tragic plane crash in India this morning.

"We know that British nationals were on board and I can confirm that the FCDO is working urgently with local authorities to support British nationals and their families, and has stood up a crisis team in both Delhi and in London."
