Ricahrd Osman has opened up on his latest career move as he admitted he felt "pressure" to ensure he impressed fans.

The former Pointless presenter, 54, became a best-selling author when he released his 2020 debut book, The Thursday Murder Club. Since then he has successfully released three further titles in the series.

The books follow the adventures of four characters, Elizabeth Best, Ron Ritchie, Joyce Meadowcroft, and Ibrahim Arif, as they crack murder mysteries in their Cooper's Chase retirement community.

Following its success, streaming platform Netflix has taken on the first novel for a film adaptation, to be directed by Christopher Columbus.

It boasts an impressive cast including Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley, and David Tennant. Ahead of the movie, Richard appeared on Thursday's (June 12) episode of BBC Breakfast alongside hosts Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty.

Diving straight into the interview, Naga was quick to point out about his new book, We Solve Murders: "In the acknowledgment, you say that you feel guilty for The Thursday Murder Club..."

As she was about to finish her sentence, Richard jumped in: "Yes for cheating on the Thursday Murder Club."

Speaking out on the storyline, Richard explained: "Yes it's a whole new gang. It's a retired cop called Steve, who wants a quiet life but his daughter-in-law Amy is a bodyguard for billionaires, which is such an amazing world."

He continued: "They team up and they team up with a woman called Rosie, who was essentially Jackie Collins, the world's best selling author and they travel around the world so it's the perfect holiday read."

Richard then admitted he felt 'pressure' making sure the book was enjoyable for readers as he said:"It's a global story but with exactly the same humour as The Thursday Murder Club books.

He added: "It's that thing of when you go on holiday and take a book it's such pressure on the book that you pack because if you start five pages of the book and you're on holiday and you don't like it, it's the worst thing in the world so I take it very seriously."

BBC Breakfast airs weekday from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer and The Thursday Murder Club is released on Netflix on 28 August.
