'Pained Beyond Words': Amit Shah After Tragic Ahmedabad Plane Crash

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed grief over the plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon, ensuring that the disaster response forces have been rushed to the site to undertake the rescue operations. Shah is currently en route to Ahmedabad following the Air India plane crash to take stock of the situation.

"Pained beyond words by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. Disaster response forces have been quickly rushed to the crash site. Spoke with the Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Home Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi, and Commissioner of Police Ahmedabad to assess the situation," he wrote in a post on X.

The London-bound flight departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. f these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals.  

As reports of the crash emerged, PM Modi spoke to the Union Home Minister and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, and asked them to go to Ahmedabad and ensure all possible assistance. 

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad has been currently shut for all operations until further notice.

"As a result, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, is currently not operational. All flight operations are temporarily suspended until further notice," a spokesperson of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport said in a statement, PTI reported.

The Ahmedabad airport has also advised passengers to check with their respective airlines regarding updates before proceeding to the airport. "We request your cooperation and patience as authorities manage this evolving situation. Further updates will be provided as soon as available," the spokesperson added.
