“Vlad’s App” will replace WhatsApp-Teligram
According to Sergei Boyski, head of Russia’s Parliament (Duma) Information Policy Committee, “Vlad’s app” is a safe and multicultural option that will replace foreign apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram. Boysky claims that this app will also remove the last decrease in Russia’s digital security. This app will be completely controlled and monitored by the Russian government.
The process of making law in the final stage
The proposed draft law to officially implement this app has already been passed from the lower house of Parliament. Now it is yet to be approved by the upper house (Federation Council). It will be finally implemented after the signature of President Vladimir Putin.
Digital Development Minister Maxut Shadev proposed to integrate the app with government services in a meeting with President Putin. It was specially emphasized that Russia is in dire need of improvement in this region as compared to other countries.
Not just chatting, it will also be used for government work
“Vlad’s app” will not be just a messaging app. According to the report of Kiev Independent, this app will be linked to the Russian state and municipal database. Through this:
ID verification
Digital signing on contracts
Use of government services
Payment of services and goods
Processing of educational services
Like work can be done. All these works will be done through the exchange of their personal information with the consent of the user.
Will not be used out of Russia
A big question arises that will people living outside Russia be able to use “Vlad’s App”? According to reports, this app will not be available outside Russia. That is, it is designed for fully local use.
At the same time, some media reports have also claimed that the Russian government can block foreign messengers like Whatsapp and Telegram in future. With this, Russian citizens will have to depend on “Vlad’s app”.
What is its big purpose?
Two main intent of Russia are seen behind this initiative:
Cyber sovereignty: Russia wants its digital sovereignty not to be in the hands of any foreign company or government.
Monitoring and control: The government will have a direct hold on dialogue and data through a state-controlled app, which will make control of anti-activities easier.
