Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday declared that the state is no longer just a minerals and metals hub but is transforming into a diversified industrial powerhouse. Speaking to industrialists at the Lok Seva Bhavan ahead of his government’s first anniversary, Majhi highlighted the state’s shift from traditional sectors to newer industries. “Odisha is no longer just a minerals and metals hub. We are becoming a diversified industrial powerhouse, where opportunity flows from port to plant and from cities to every aspirational district,” he said.
State’s Industrial Growth Expands Across 20 Key Sectors
Majhi stated that Odisha is witnessing industrial growth across 20 sectors, including mining, metallurgy, metal downstream, chemicals, food processing, apparel, and textiles. He emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusivity, development, and transformative governance. “One year ago, the people of Odisha placed their faith in us to build a future that is inclusive, aspirational, and transformative,” Majhi said. He cited the state’s expanding industrial portfolio as evidence of that transformation and encouraged investors to participate in the journey of creating a globally competitive Odisha.
Odisha Approves 206 Projects Worth ₹4.5 Lakh Crore in One Year
In the past year, the Odisha government approved 206 large-scale projects, almost double the average of the previous five years. These projects represent a combined investment value of ₹4.5 lakh crore and hold the potential to generate nearly 2.9 lakh jobs. Majhi said, “These numbers reflect not only our speed, but scale and substance.” The projects span diverse sectors, contributing to balanced industrial development across the state. He urged business leaders to join hands with the state to boost employment and economic growth.56 Projects Taken Up Post-Utkarsha Odisha Summit
Following the Utkarsha Odisha summit, the government initiated 56 projects for either groundbreaking or inauguration. These ventures represent investments exceeding ₹1.78 lakh crore and are expected to create 1.1 lakh jobs. Majhi said the speed of implementation and scale of investment signify a major leap in Odisha’s industrial capability. “This reflects our government’s focus on delivery and accountability,” he added. He credited this acceleration to transparent governance and proactive industrial policy measures introduced over the last year.
Odisha Government to Focus on Four Industrial Priorities
Looking ahead, Majhi outlined four key priorities for the state’s industrial development. “First, the government will bring new policies that unlock emerging sectors and offer global competitiveness. Secondly, the government will expand the state’s land bank and industrial infrastructure to meet future demand,” he said. He added that the state would also revamp its single window clearance system and create a modern project tracking platform. Finally, the government plans to simplify regulatory processes to improve the business environment. “The next four years will lay the foundation for a prosperous Odisha,” Majhi asserted.
