RCB issues statement on stampede during IPL 2025 title celebrations at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday issued a statement mourning the death of 11 people in a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

“RCB mourn the tragic loss of lives and extend their heartfelt condolences to the affected families. We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us,” the franchise said.

Thousands of fans had gathered outside the stadium where a felicitation ceremony and an open bus parade had been planned for the side which won its first Indian Premier League (IPL) title.

Shortly after the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that 11 people had died and 33 were injured. He also announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh for the kin of the deceased.

The franchise added that the event was shortened after the news of the stampede broke.

“Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed, the guidance and advice of the local administration,” the statement read.
