New Delhi: As the Narendra Modi-led government completes 11 years in power, the Congress party has launched a blistering political offensive through a new campaign titled “Pol-Khol”, aimed at unveiling what it calls the “failures, false promises, and fabrications” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Calling these 11 years “11 Years of Jumla,” the Congress accuses the BJP of eroding the economy, damaging institutions, and widening social and economic inequality.
The Congress party claims that its campaign is backed by detailed research on the BJP’s policies, schemes, and governance track record, especially in BJP-ruled states. According to the party, the campaign will highlight not just national shortcomings but also failures at the state level, ranging from economic stagnation to governance lapses.
“Anyayy kaal, crony capitalism”and many more
The “Pol-Khol” campaign is a fresh, scathing attack on the BJP government. According to the Congress statement, the party would be questioning the BJP on issues such as the “deteriorating economic situation of the country”.
The Congress referred to the situation as “Anyay Kaal”, which they claim witnessed a 45-year high unemployment rate, along with the GDP investment percentage (average over time) that was 33.4 per cent during the UPA and 28.7 per cent in the “Anyay Kaal.” It also highlighted India’s position in the World Hunger Index, which is 105 out of 127 countries.
In a veiled attack on business tycoons like Adani and Ambani, the Congress accused the Modi government of fostering an environment where select businesses receive undue favours through close political ties.
The BJP’s 2019 promise to transform India into a 5-trillion-dollar economy by 2024 has come under fire. The Congress blames failures in key areas such as:
“But with demonetisation, frauds in the banking sector to the tune of ₹90,000 crore, and the accumulation of non-performing assets worth ₹24 lakh crore, India’s situation has worsened day by day,” Congress said in a statement.
No press conferences
The campaign has also criticised the Modi government for damaging the social fabric by instigating religious polarisation in the nation. It also blamed the BJP government for “misusing constitutional institutions and agencies” to cater to party needs.
The campaign has also prepared itself to accuse the BJP government of rigging the electoral process.
The campaign additionally blamed the BJP for making constant efforts to take political advantage of the valour of the army. This comes days after the Congress claimed that using Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo on railway tickets featuring Operation Sindoor is like “selling the valour of the Army as a product for political gains”.
The campaign also criticised India’s foreign policy under Modi, claiming a deterioration in global standing and missed diplomatic opportunities. It further points to PM Modi’s “refusal to hold a single press conference in 11 years”, questioning transparency and accountability.
